ACTIVITIES OF THE INLAND WATERWAYS DEPARTMENT

  • Clearance of Water Hyacinths and Weeds from the State Inland

Waterways using manual and machine methods;

  •  Repair and maintenance of marine equipment such as Super

Chopper and Skimming boats;

  • Management of Government boats across the MDAs at

Igbokoda;

  • Facilitation of the development of transportation infrastructure

Alape Inland Port, Igodan –Lisa airport, rail line development

from Ore to Akure;

  • Dredging of shallow rivers and opening up of blocked

Waterways in the coastal areas;

  • Opening up of creeks for navigational purposes in the riverine

Areas of the State;

  • Promote cooperation with Nigeria Maritime Administration
  • and Safety Agency (NIMASA) on the training of seafarers;

 (viii) Coordination of maritime workers operating on Waterways;

 (ix)   Supervision of construction of ports and jetties;

 (x)    Ensure the enforcement of safety regulations and standards on

         State Inland Waterways e.g. compulsory use of life jackets before

         boarding fly boats;

  (xi)  Liaising with the Federal/State Governments, Ministries and

             Parastatals on the issues and policies affecting the maritime

             Sector e.g. National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA),

            Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMAS.

(xii)  Coordinating the free shuttle boats in the riverine areas of Ondo State.
