ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT OPERATIONS

The Department is charged with the responsibilities of supervising and managing the following among others;

  • School Free Shuttle Scheme
  • Passengers’ Transit Welfare/Security Scheme
  • Transport Operators (Unions, Independent, Associations etc)
  • Establishment of Auto Mechanic Institute.

School Free Shuttle Scheme

The Department supervises, regulates, and monitors a seamless movement of school children to and from schools free of charge on daily basis. It also organizes training and re-training for shuttle personnel.

Passengers’ Transit Welfare/ Security Scheme

The Scheme is aimed at providing insurance package known as compensational plans for both intra/inter- city travelers/ passengers in case of any eventualities. In the process, passengers are to properly filled passengers’ manifest and obtain N100 tickets already embedded in their normal fare

Transport Operators/Transport Unions

The Department manages the activities of all Transport Operators in the State. It ensures no park/loading bay is being operated without formal approval.  It also see that no Independent operator operates without operating licence from the Ministry. It organizes training and re-training for all transporters from time to time.

Auto Mechanic Institute The department regulates and supervises the institute aiming at providing formal education for all apprentices graduating from the conventional auto workshop with advanced knowledge of mechatronics in trouble shooting modern vehicles. Thereafter, it certifies graduates of the Institute
